I put a small amount of unleaded petrol (£6) in my 2006 E 280 CDI and on the advice of members (previous post) topped up with diesel (twice) and now the tank is almost empty. The contents should be almost pure diesel at next fill. No apparent ill effects to the engine.
Have been advised to change the fuel filter. Went out and bought one but can't find where it goes! (Had petrol model before). Can somebody please enlighten me?

Hi

Easy to do, just pull off the engine cover (plastic) and it is dead centre of the engine, make sure you replace the clips and dont ever put petrol in again and drive it, these engines/high pressure pumps are very sensitive to patrol, not covered by warrenty and could cost you upto £6000.

Thanks for that! Have changed filter and have sworn never to be so dumb again to pump in petrol! Engine sounds OK - maybe I have got away with it! I agree, not something to be done again.

The high pressure pump that works up to 300 bars will be the first to go down with petrol in it.the only lubrication the pump gets is from the deisel. It can also damage the injectors.

Malcolm.

the max error, ie put petrol in deisel tank would be in the order of 6 liters in a 70 liter tank.
