Hi,

For some reason my fuel flap has decided it won't close and stay closed when you push it in. If I hold the flap closed and lock the car it will lock the flap closed, but will spring open again once unlocked. Also the flap feel loose at the hinge end, so don't know if the problem lies there. I can't see any way of removing/replacing the flap or inspecting for a failed component.

The rubber spring loaded button that pushes the flap open when pressed works fine, so its not that. It just seems that there is no mechanism for holding it closed (other than locking the car).

Does anyone know how to get at it? With the flap open, I can't see any screws or clips or anyway to remove it.

TIA

Steve

If your fuel flap won't stay closed, it could be due to a broken latch, a faulty spring, or misalignment. Inspect the latch mechanism for damage or debris, and check if the spring needs replacement. Sometimes, a simple adjustment or lubrication can resolve the issue. If the problem persists, consider consulting a mechanic for a more detailed inspection and repair.

Thanks for that. I've had a good look and can't see anything obvious.

Flap can be lined up perfectly as the little electronic spike that locks it shut will engage perfectly when the car in locked off the key fob.

Local bodyshop may be next call :(

I think that you may be able access the back face of the fuel filler from inside the boot, but you'll need to remove the trim on that side first.
Failing that on some cars you can remove it by using a plastic body trim wedge to lever it out, using the join between filler housing and the painted bodywork.
The body coloured flap itself is clipped to the black plastic hinge.
I would acquire a replacement first for reference.

Would you mind posting what the fix ended up being? My 2020 C63 S (USA) started having the issue as well. Pop it open to fuel up and it doesn't want to close again. I can usually play around with the lever inside, push the button by hand, etc, until finally it lets me push the lid closed and stays there. Not sure if me messing with it causes it to temporarily work, or if it just happens to work every x amount of tries. Very frustrating.

Hi 2020C63S,

I took it to my usual repair center (paint spraying/crash repair/respray), who said it was a bu66er to do but they did it. Part was £70, fitting was £200. Now works perfectly :)
