Fuel Gauge

My 200TE Auto Estate point blank refused to start this morning, plenty of fuel, battery OK, no broken fuses, but I notice that a light in the shape of an arrow has appeared on the fuel gage, not having a owners manual only a workshop manual I have no idea what this light means, can anyone help please ?????. Roger. :cry:

The small orange triangle on the fuel gauge indicates 'reserve' fuel, usually 12 litres or so remain when this comes on.

You may well be out of fuel, if the light has been on for a few days and you have continued driving without refuelling.

BTW, this light only extinguishes once the car has started - so if it wasn't on before whilst driving over the last few days, then your fuel gauge is fine.

Is the engine turning over ? If not, then it's a bad battery connection, possibly at the starter solenoid.

Is there spark at the plugs ? If not then it could be anyone of your ignition components : ECU, coil, leads, cap, rotor arm or crank position sensor.

If both the above are fine, then you either have a bad fuel pump relay or bad fuel pump.

check to see if you have a manual bleed for your fuel system. if your reseve tank kicked in, usually you are suppose to bleed the system first.. just something to check into.....
-might help more if you descibe more of the problem, like what it did or didnt do when you tried to start.

That low fuel triangle light is a real pain!
Its shrouded by the rim of the steering wheel -its the most illogical thing on the car.
Several times I have had that sickening feeling of "how long has that been on?"
