fuel guager

I've noticed that my fuel guager on ML 270 goes to 0 when filled up. Searching arround it looks like it's the faulty Fuel Sender Unit located in tank. I usualy get around by reseting the fues 5 which resets the internal clock.

As the FSU is expensive part which comes with fuel pamp, I was wondering if anobody managed to repair the guager part without replacing the lot. There may be some residual on the upper part of the potentiometer as it does not get full very often :)

Thanks

Adding injection cleaner in the tank often cures these things

Thanks...will try this today. Any suggestion on what brand of cleaner to try? Guess tank has to be full then so that level reaches the top of pump where potentiometer is.

Any brand may do it, they all work on the same principles.

You do not have to have a complete full tank as it moves around when driving

Thanks. I have also noticed that when it is showing full tanks it drops the first quater ever so fast. You can alsmost watch it dropping. It stays around middle for ages almost making you think that needle is stuck. The last quater is quick too.

Does that sound like Redex job. Got some last nigh. It's in the tank now. Hope this cures it. Otherwise, sits out and removal of the pump to clean the potetiometer.

Well this is the cheapest thing to try, and the easiest,,lets hope that the fault is not in the cluster with the gauge circuitry
