Hi Everybody

Has anyone experience of using a modern pump on an old Bosch Mechanical fuel injection system.
My car is a Mercedes 280SE 1970 The Bosch part is extremly expensive, Anyone have any ideas?

Use a carb instead :).

There are no modern Fuel pumps like this on the market I'M afraid. But a modern injection system will also be very expensive. At least more than a used Pump and you need to adjust it which also needs alot of time, patience and energy. Do they try to rip you off with another fuel pump?

If I remember correctly, your injection pump is the mechanical one that if looking at the enging with the bonnet up sits on the lower part of the engine towards the rear ?

Thes units can be reconditioned but again very expensive as there are very few people that do it.

If you call up some of the specialiast restorers such as Roger Edwards, Im sure that they will put you intouch with the correct people.

£350 for a new pump!!!

Hi Oli
Cant find a second hand pump anywhere, and I think 350 quid for a new one is a bit steep, thought about using a carb, but not a clue about whether its possible.

Thanks Keith

...lol.... In this case... You can take a more modern one from the W124 series. Quite cheap to get. I can also supply one for 50 Quid testet. They have a different shape but not a problem to fit. And you are right, the original pumps are very expensive today.

Hi Keith,
from left to right --- filter --- pressure reservoirs --- pump ---
You may need only the pump (don't let it run dry). Don't know where a fuel filter is fitted but I would fit one between the tank and the pump to avoid getting mud into the pump. You don't need the pressure reservoirs at all for this engine.

Greez and good Luck

Oli
