Hi all,

New to the forum and like to say hello to everyone. I have a Mercedes 2006 c220 diesel which recently started to smell diesel from the engine bay and through air vents. Also found traces of diesel running across the road where it was parked.

I need to get this sorted. After reading a lot in this forum it seems to me its may be a fuel pump leak of some sort.

I am no mechanic or DIY er so if anyone in the forum with a bit of expertise is willing to have a look at my car I can travel to you also if any parts required I will pay for it and cash for your help. Basically I need this car fixed by someone who knows what they are doing. Please PM me and I shall contact you. Thanks

You make no mention of where you are.
There are several good indys on here who can tackle that job - just need to tell us where you are so we can recommend one.

Wayne Gates in Harrow is 15 miles from you. Highly recommended by folks on here.

Hi. You didn't say that you had actually checked the underside of the pump for leaks. It could also be a leaky o ring on one of the pipes, or a cracked fuel pipe. They do get pretty brittle as time goes on.

I can see small drops of oil dripping from where the high pressure fuel pump is and there is another part attached to that also not sure what that is but its not from underside of it.

Why don't you find a decent Indy garage who can do the work honestly and with knowledge ? I don't see how offering forum members cash to have a go is any better !

Wayne Gates said if the fuel pump is leaking they won't fit parts other than the Mercedes main dealers and we all know what their prices are like.

I'd say that's fair enough on their part as they have to warranty the work and body parts could mean having to do the job twice and only getting paid once, not to mention any impact on their reputation.
I doubt anyone else will be any different.
As for MB parts they aren't always all that bad. Did WG quote the job?
For most members I would imagine this would be a can of worms they won't want to open as accepting money gives you legal rights for any subsequent issues.
I'm out sorry.

MB parts can be as reasonable as after market and as LK has stated the garage in question has the right to protect their warranty terms and reputation by fitting what they can rely on.
WG in this case have stated thus...
Where your saving lies with WG and any independent is the considerably lower labour rate than main dealer.
You have been given good advice from the others to this effect and you state you’re not a DIY mechanic therefore you may have to accept this will cost you some money, sorry!
I doubt anyone on here will do your DIY for you....
Not aiming to be rude but in summary take the advice given ?

look on the bright side Uddins, diagnosis is not an issue here, the problem you have is a very common one, and relatively easy to fix for any competent diesel fitter. you either need new fuel lines or a new fuel pump... or both.
Simples ;).

I had a leaking diesel pump. I bought a repair kit from a company in Brighton (auto marine diesel). It really was a fairly straight forward repair. Kit was £40 with postage. You can get them from eBay for half that too but several places I rang recommended them.

They can rebuild it for you for £250 or so.

WG will offer you the very best of advice and likely fix you car. It may give you a dent in the wallet...but you want your car fixed properly by someone you can trust, correct? If so, WG is your man. Us indies aren't the cheapest garages, we are never priced to be, but you stand the best chance of getting it fixed first time and permanently.

Taking the car to WG this Thursday to get it checked and hopefully to get it fixed. I will keep things posted here.
