I wanted to install a new fuel level sender unit (VDO make) in my fuel tank (vertical mounted). This is a long aluminum cylinder type with a plastic cap and a three prong outlet. The problem I am facing is removing the flange that secures the fuel level sender. I am just not able to budge it with my wrench (46mm hex). Does anyone know if it's counter-clockwise to unscrew or clockwise?
BTW, it's for a E220 petrol 1995 W124.
Thanks!

It's normal. i.e. counter clockwise to undo. I tak it that you have pin pointed the sender as being the cause of your problem and not a poor earth point of faulty gauge. If you have a replacement sender unit plug it in and dip it into a jar of fuel.

Hi thanks, for the reply.
I did change the level sender and yes it's normal turns to undo and re-fit.
My gauge now works fine. Opened the old one and found that one of the resistance wires was snapped. If I can get the same quality and type of wire, I would end up having a spare level sender assembly. I believe the resistance values at full tank (that is when the float is in the top-most position) is 3 ohms to infinite. And at the bottom, it's 89 ohms (+ or - 3ohms).
