hello all
I think we are all fed up with the price of fuel. So lets protest it, like every body stop buying BP & shell forcing them to start a price war in fact let us go one step more and say we will not buy of them until petrol is 0.68p spread the word

Face it, they have us by the nuts. What are you going to do - not buy fuel? You're going to get 15 million people to stop buy their fuel? Economize yourself and that's all you can do.

I cant afford to smoke either at nearly £6.00 a packet, wife buys them from Dubia 0.22p per pack...............

fuel is a rip off, if the gov reduced tax by 50% the ecomony would get better but it wont happen the shortfall would need to come from somewhere else.

Buy a prius they are supposed to be good on juice and good for the planet which is also b0ll0cks.

This is such an old idea which has been run on many forums and has had no effect. Why? Mainly because it is ill conceived and won't work. If we all stop buying from Shell and BP, but buy elsewhere instead, they will simply sell their fuel to Tesco, Morrisons, and any other supplier which we are not boycotting.

Since when did Shell, BP, Esso etc retail have any influence over retail fuel prices anyway? Sure they can maybe tweak it 2-3p or so, but for me, with an 80l tank, it only amounts to £3.00 in a near £100 transaction. Plus I can save that by going to a supermarket and if the garage is near a supermarket filling station then its already competing anyway.

The major component of fuel price is taxation. Hence, the only people who can make any real difference to fuel prices is Stalin and his henchmen and as he's squandered the proceeds of the good times with thousands more public sector workers and vastly improved skiver support, they can't reduce the tax even if they wanted to.

So, as they say, the only people you'll be hurting are yourselves.

Well said!

Thank You.

The government does what it wants anyway. Don't like the fuel prices?! Leave UK or stop driving while here. That's their attitute in my book. Personally, I prefer to stay and pay whatever they want.

Once any new technology takes over from petrol or diesel (ie battery etc) they will find a way of taxing that instead!

watched a program on TV the other day and found that there prices are set, not be economical stautus nor a certain mark up, but more on the scaremonger tatics of the media, they set there prices to what they think they get away with a the newspapers help them!!!! i reckon there should be a governing body on the priceses of fuel!

Thanks the Hate Mail (or Daily Mail) for giving them more money!!!

As much as I like to give the "Daily Wail" and other odious right wing rags a good kicking, you can't blame them for rising prices.

Without wishing to come across as patronising, the fuel issue is a very complicated beast indeed.

It's a global problem - global demand is beginning to catch up with production. Therefore it's a sellers market.

Prices are controlled to some degree by the OPEC cartel (see above)

In the current economic climate the stock market will invest in lower risk things such as commodities - it's a safe bet that demand for oil over the next 10 years will go up. Therefore, investment-wise, oil and related industries is a shoe-in. This sort of speculation drives prices up.

So before you even get to the UK, crude oil prices are rising and there is nothing anyone can really do about it - that's free market economics, folks.

Margins in petrol production, distribution and retail are pretty thin too, so no room there.

The only area that can be sliced to really reduce the cost at the pump is in duty. At the moment, it's 50p (ish) duty plus another 18p VAT. In theory, as oil prices go up, VAT increases and so duty can be cut w/out a loss to the exchequer (and that isn't taking into account the windfall taxes gained from BP etc). The thing is though, with Gordon having sold off the family silver, the UK coffers are bare so there'll be no reduction in duty. Also, there's no appetite for it in any of the parties - green issues and green credentials are seen as vote winners in the next election.

The "good" news is, as oil prices go up, oil company revenue increases which makes more oil reserves economically available.

We must assume that prices will only go up (£2 a litre is not far away) and with that in mind, all we can do is find the best way to live with it.

I think we should hold out for 0.67p. I know, I know, call me a dreamer.

.
When the bulk of the unintelligent masses see what green issues are costing their hard earned, they'll lose interest and want a party that can deliver real politics, real improvements to Britain, and real ways of dealing with the economic conditions.

Although the electorate were stupid enough to vote in Labour in 1997, by 2008 they are sick of them. Given this 11 year learning curve, another 11 years they masses will finally see how they've been duped.
