Hi,
Just found this forum and thought i'd ask to see if any1 has experienced the problem im having at the mo with my Mercedes.
Its a L reg (93) C180 esprit. MY Son changed the Fuel Pump and put a new filter on due to the car braking down Tues night on wifes way home from work, she got the the AA guy and he said the car is either over fueling or not getting enough fuel.
My Son changed the parts as the fule pump sounded worn as if the bearing was worn inside (rattling around).
Since this the car wont even start.
Theres no fuel getting up to the engine, my son removed the large rubber pipe that comes out the bottom of the fuel tank that goes straight to the fuel filter and the pipe is bone dry, he's blown it through with a air line and still nothing comes out thinkin it may of been blocked.
Is there a valve or anything inside tank?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks

I am just wondering if your fuel tank is collapsing.

If you have done a high mileage and not changed the charcoal filter, it can get blocked and cause the fuel tank to collapse.

Do you remember getting a 'whooshing' sound when taking the fuel filler cap off ?
Do you still get that sound ?

If not, could be your problem.

Is the new fuel pump running, is the filter the correct way round, Have you checked to see if you have 12volt on the fuel pump live terminal. Does petrol run out if you slacken the filter union.

Thanks for replies,
Yes get long whooshing noise when takin the filler cap of!!
THe fuel filter will only fit 1 way due to connections on each end are different.
Fuel pump is working fine. Car now starts and runs fine, found that the expansion tank by the filler cap was empty after filling it up with couple of litres of petrol it starts fine.
I will get a charcoal filter and fit it to be 100% .
Thanks for all your replies

So that I understand correctly, you are saying the problem was due to car being out of petrol ????

What was the petrol gauge showing.

What is the expansion tank next to the filler cap about ?????????
