Just wondering if anyone has ever had the same filling diesel tank issue as myself. 2019 E220 model. I usually let the tank down to just less than 1/4 full, then buy my diesel. Almost always buy from the same filling station and have this issue happen on 3 occasions when i'm filling with just over half the tank filled the hose clicks as if the tank is full. I know it's far from it and keep filling but annoyingly it keeps clicking as if full. Any advice appreciated.

Nozzles can be sensitive to back flow of air. Use a different pump. Also make sure you have the nozzle pointing straight in and not angled.

I have had the problem in the past with certain pumps where the fuel flow is quite fast. Just ease off on the trigger slightly. Thinking about it, I don’t recall a problem for the last couple of years now I’m back on petrol so perhaps it’s something to do with the way diesel foams as it goes in (exasperated by colder weather?).

Try a different pump/filling station some time.

Thinking back, yes, that did used to be an issue with filling up with Diesel. I used to overcome it by just moving the nozzle inside the filler neck. That didn't solve the problem but it did ease it. Since having a petrol engine the problem hasn't arisen. I guess it's as Steve (Srdl) has said, petrol doesn't foam like diesel does and that is most probably where the problem lies. :)

I've had it recently with a Sainsbugs petrol pump - had to hold the lever only half on otherwise it would cut off. Back pressure sensor obviously too sensitive, I've noticed the Costco ones can be a bit sensitive as well.

It happens on my car, just move the nozzle out a bit.

If none of the above work, place the nozzle in such a way that the diesel runs along the neck of the tank.
