Fuel Pump doesn't prime when trying to start e220 w124 1995

I have bought e220 cabriolet 1995 w124

i have to turn the ignition on several times before the fuel pump primes itself, before the car starts.. does anyone know what causes this.

Hi all,
sorry for butting in but my fuel pump in my 90 560sec keeps running sometimes when ignition is turned on, could this be the valve as well?

there are two valves - one on the fuel rail which controlls max pressure, and a non return valve next to the pump. the first poster i reckon its the non return valve the second could be the pressure control valve on the fuel rail...

just guessing tho'
