I have an A class bought the car Feb 2018 with no mileage on but had been pre registered July 2017, has done 21k, been serviced throughout at Mercedes Liverpool.

I have an issue with the car making a noise, chugging, I can’t drive it as I am on the motorway feels like it’s losing power and then has surges so tonight the RAC have been out and diagnosed a fuel pump issue which he said is unheard of in a car with my mileage. The car is out of warranty but I want to know where I would stand with the dealership, it looks like the part has failed.

Hello and welcome

If you have a relationship with Mercedes Liverpool then I’d start by asking them. Nothing to lose and everything to gain. Although it is 14 months out of warranty…

Exactly as Blobcat. If you dont ask you dont get.....simples.

But you need goodwill with the dealer and that is hard nowadays.

I have been with my MB dealer for 20 years and goodwill doesnt mean much nowadays, the staff change, they dont care about you from Adam bar taking your dosh. But I dont have bad service.

Be preapred for a realistic answer, Sir your cars out of warranty and its wear and tear.

I would also get a second opinion. take the car to MB and say here is the car, tell them whats wrong and let them diagnose. Dont blindly trust RAC man.

I understand wear and tear however I don’t believe a fuel pump should fail after 21000 miles, I understand if the car had done 50000 miles or even more. My first phone call today is with M B Liverpool.

Diesels do clock up a lot of mileage.
Did the RAC mechanic give you the error code that pointed to the fuel pump.???

I would change the fuel filter as a first course of action.

No he didn’t connect it up to anything, it is the noise the car is making & the way it is driving, all or nothing, surges & chugging!

My car is being collected tomorrow by MB roadside assistance and will be taken to MB Liverpool. I will have to pay for the diagnosis and then take it from there.

With the car not being drivable you dont have much choice, the only other option is recovery to a local garage.
See how you get on with MB Liverpool, I would certainly be asking for no charge for the diagnostic.
If you dont get any discount find your local MB independent, & start using them.
