Hi folks,

My 190D fuel light works when ignition switch is operated but doesn't come on when the fuel is low! I know it's not dire, just irritating. Any ideas?

Many thanks

Dave

Sounds like the sender in the tank has gone to bed.

It will probably work by shorting the 12v bulb to ground. You could investigate this then try shorting the connector to ground to check teh wiring.

Hi dieselman
Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. If the sensor in the tank was gone would the guage still work ok? It seems to work as its always done indicating ok across the full range. If I take the sender out do I have to drain the fuel tank? Thanks again for your help.
Cheers

Dave

I think there *must* be two completely separate sensors.

I have the exact opposite in my car. The guage does not work but the reserve light works fine.

Not sure, but I think you will find the sender unit is at the top of the tank, so no need to drain the tank.
There are probably two components on the sender unit. The coil for the guage sender and a contact and float for the light.

Ascertain which is the wire for the light and short it to ground to make the circuit.
