Your car is too new to be affected too much, the odd car still comes through with a rusty spot, but in general things are getting better

We have had yr 2007 ML's on here though which are galvanised and have rust.

However on a 2009 car the jury is still out...it isn't old enough yet really. Water it and give it a few years to grow ;)

I looked at a few ml's but the rear arches rust so bad even mine on the rear have surface rust which I'm going to get sorted out at a body shop

Take a look in the diy section at my wheel arch mod thread and do it yourself

    Hi
Galvanising? Merc quality is a joke....see CLS rust post. I was in a BMW 6 series yesterday....puts Merc to shame!

Your cars aren't galvanised, get over it, they have a zinc rich primer under the colour coat, which technically allows MB to get away with 'galvanised', the panels themselves have never seen a zinc dip......legally galvanised only means 'covered in zinc' even if its just paint.

The best anti rust treatment is a process called E Coat. this is applied by electric deposition as the first coat of paint by the manufacturer. Most car manufactures now carry out this process to combat rust.

Zinc is a strange product, not easy to get paint to adhere to it when new.
