You have a lovely wide garage with a heavy steel beam across the front entrance, why did you put that brick pillar in the middle? I was originally going to do that when I had my 20ft wide garage built at the old house, decided instead to have a single 16ft opening and a roller shutter remote controlled door, which was cheaper than a 16ft up and over non electric! My garage was 26ft deep with a pit crosswise across the bottom, so getting a car into position across the pit was so much easier with the single opening, plus it was easier getting our 2 main cars in and out - and for us getting in and out! I hung tennis balls from the rafters and knew where they needed to be on the windscreen when driving in!

No criticism of the op, but next time I'll have one big door rather than 2 smaller ones.

Mainly personal preference Chris and Naraic,
I had a 17ft custom made single door made at one of our previous garage extensions and it was not that well made as it banged and cracked when it was raised and lowered. So opted for 2 singles for this build as I thought 1 single 19.5ft x 10.5ft door might not be strong enough. But know where your coming from ;)

This will be my new (240 year old) garage. Trying to decide on the style of door.

Counting down now the days before I can get the roofer here, but more progress today placing the rafters in situ ready to be secured on Thursday.

Just a suggestion - clad the inner walls with 18mm ply, makes it very easy to screw shelf brackets etc anywhere you want them (I did this to my carpentry workshop)! It's what I did to 2 walls of my garage - the 3rd had to have fire proof cladding on the inside, but as it was timber framed the line of fixings securing the cladding showed where there was an upright I could screw something to!

Yes, the finished product is taking shape now..whats the square area of the floor, and the height of the walls, and the highest point of the roof?

It's about 60 sq metres and the highest point is just under 5 metres down to 3.4 metres Jim

There are lots of nice extra things I would like to be able to do Chris, however the block building is coming down an a bigger and better one will be put up in its place and I intend to have as much cabinets on the wall in there, plus it wont cost as much in ply
We are having our house walls insulated next month and I will ask them a price on filling the cavity in the garage, because we are old we were eligible for this grant but they wont do the garage or kitchen extension as they are too new

Those are good specs..Will the 5 mtrs height allow you to install a 2 post lift?

I certainly hope so Jim, we did some intense measuring so the architect go the high right ;)

What type of door are you going for, roller shutter I assume?
Yes looking at a roller, the up and overs are lot of money for what we are after.
Because of the size they are close to commercial doors and the prices go up. Bit like when you tell people you have a Mercedes.......'Oh expensive then'
