Remove the trim around it (screwed at aft end, then lift out out aft end first) and you'll find a bulb underneath the forward left corner of the gear change assy.

Sorry if I'm being a bit thick, but I can't see a screw to undo. Is it the whole wood panel that has to come off, or just the selector ? (I really dont want to break anything!)
Thanks.

You need to remove the wood trim of the centre console around the gear shift. The bit where your window switches are.

Look under the carpet behind it (I'm guessing you haven't got the covered stowage, just an open tray) and you'll see the screw(s). Can't remember if there's one or two.

Unscrew, lift the rear up and unhook the front from under the ashtray.

The black plastic trim immediately around the gear selector is glued onto the wood on mine, not sure if that's a previous bodge by someone or if you can remove yours first to get some clearance.

It's a lot more simple to do than to explain. :)

If only all jobs were that easy! Went to my local Merc dealer who gave me the bulb for free (Much to my surprise!) Fitted in 3 mins ! :D
