Newbie here - hi all!

Quick question for you, my car is a 2015 A250, it's done 29,000 miles. It's due its 5 year service now, and Mercedes have said that the gearbox oil needs changing too as it's hit 5 years. Can I just check, is this definitely required now given it's pretty low mileage? Or should you do that at 5 years regardless of miles?

Thanks all!

Hello and welcome,

Auto or manual?

Changing the oil is always a good idea

Thank you for the welcome! It's auto. Was just asking in case the lower miles would mean it's OK to put it off, so thought I'd ask the experts

MB do specify time/mileage for gearbox changes . If it were me and I was going to keep the car long term and high mileage I would do it .
But , you don’t have to . You will loose Mobilio breakdown cover if you don’t do it . Setting this aside it won’t make any difference if you leave it a few thousand miles or so .
You need to weigh up how long you intend to keep the car ? For instance if you were to trade it in next year and were offered a ridiculously low trade in value then it wouldn’t matter either way .
Having it done at an MB specialist is normally cheaper than MB doing it , as is most servicing and repair work .
Edit, I am no expert by the way :D

From a service point of view, the idea of taking off the guard plates from underneath to look at the transmission, is to see that there is no oil leaking.
The idea of removing the old oil is to check that there are no surprises thrown by the transmission.

What I would like to know is the deterioration of the transmission oil, over the five years time lapse and the strain the driver has put it to by his driving style.

I wonder if folk who are hibernating their classic cars, get advised to get the transmission oil changed every 5 years.
