gearbox oil change

Hi All,

Can anyone advise me please, whether changing the gearbox oil on my 300CE is a tricky job, or just long-winded and time consuming. In theory it sounds fairly straightforward, but i'm wondering whether it might just be easier to pay an hour's labour (??) instead?

Very easy, make sure you have the correct size allen key, so as not to damage plugs in sump and torque converter.

Yes nice easy job don't spend forever looking for the plug in the torque converter, they don't all have one. The only time consuming job is getting the oil level correct on filling. Put in 3 litres then start the engine and engage drive, switch off, put in another two litres, start engine and run up to temperature and correct oil level. If you do drain the converter you will need more oil

One more question - is this a messy job? Would i be advised to use a big drip tray to collect the oil, or is a standard sized gallon oil tub sufficient?

I've got one of these oil collection containers that has a plug on the side to let oil drain into so that you can take it to the local council.

Finally, do i need any gaskets?

Your 300CE does have a torque converter drain. You will need to drain/refill just over 6 litres. Should not be too messy if you are well prepared.
