Welcome to the forum, anything could have caused this to happen, only by taking the box down will the answer be known.

No, it should not happen, but things do go wrong sometimes, thats why we have guarantees,to give time for problems to come to a head. Somethig broken off come off, no one will know until its taken down again.
Take it back to who ever did the job.
I had a car that would just stop going forward, and it was the valve block with bits in, so I had a re con box, the same fault came back after 100 miles and it turned out that the alli casing was breaking up, they got me a new case under the guarantee and it was fine from then onwards.

Why was the first gearbox changed? Did it have swarf in it? If so, you needed a new torque converter as you will not be able to fully remove the old oil. Also the oil cooler & pipes would have needed a full flush-out. Was all this done?

had the torque converter cleaned and the cooler pipes which only run to the engine cooler on the side of the engine block.
dont know what was wrong with the old unit other than slippage and poor gearchange, had it removed and this new one fitted? which is worse than the old one!

I'd be wondering how well everything was "cleaned".

perhaps the better word to use was "flushed"

The other thing to check is the engine coolant, does it have oil mixed in with the coolant?

I agree, Benz only do three types of transmission oil cooler and the one on this car should be on right hand side of the rad.

An oil cooler on any car cannot do its job if its not located at the front. If it were located on the block, then it would become an oil heater:rolleyes: suggest you lift the car and follow the pipes. Look at the radiator, are there any pipes connected, and I dont mean rubber pipes. Ive been repairing these cars for 40 years and ive never, even non benz, heard of a cooler on the block:rolleyes:
