gearbox probs HELP HELP HELP PLEASE

hi guys i was driving along today and the car wouldnt change gear,so i parked up turned it off and started it again everything was fine,drove it again at a later time just put my foot down and the engine just revved without no drive and then jumped into gear,also the gear change has changed its not as smooth as it used to be,have you guys got any idea ?

its a c220 2002 auto diesel 61,000 miles on clock

any info you have would be appreciated

first thing to check is the gearbox oil level, sounds very much like oil problem, get it checked asap as the longer you leave it the more chance of irrepairable damage,

It sounds as if it has dropped into default mode (reverse and second gear only).
It is either low on oil (as per the previous poster) or is suffereing something more expensive.

If the oil has never been changed then it is overdue for it. Oil changes are not part of the regular servicing for cars of this era as they are said to be "sealed for life" - life being until the gearbox self destructs.

Get the oil checked out and fault codes read.

Even if it means spending a couple of hundred at a dealers this is less than a couple of thousand for a new box.

thanks for the advice i will try changing the gearbox oil first,now ive got the problem of trying to find a merc specialist who wont tear my b-llocks off with the price,and also try and rip me off saying it needs certain parts when it doesnt,can anybody suggest a garage they no i live in kent near brands hatch but im willing to travel a bit

cmon guys does anyone no a garage near brands or near me as i dont want to be ripped off by a main dealer.
