I have intermittent problem above – only happens when you start the car – drive off and stays in 1st. Restarting engine fixes the problem, and then car drives fine. And here’s the really strange thing – happens almost every morning when it’s sub-zero overnight – in the UK we only had on really cold week in the winter of ’07 and the car did it every morning that week – hardly did it at all once weather eased – and the last week (today is Dec 5th) in the UK has been the same (first really cold week of the winter) and guess what, it’s back again, every morning this week.

I have taken car to MB dealer – usual story, put it on computer, nothing shows – they do not have any suggestions.

Would be very grateful for any ideas? - car has done about 80,000 miles, MB service history

test your battery voltage, common fault on the 210, you start, fault code gets flaged up as "under voltage to suppy vavles" gearbox in limp, couple of min running tops up the voltage and clears!! new battery, job done!
