A "friend" of mine was charged by Mercedes £405 inlcuding parts and labour, 3.9 hours to change gearbox sump gasket and plug on c180k w203 auto. Is this correct and acceptable?

Thanks

That was very expensive, someone should say what they have paid an indie to do the job

Hi,
Had my G/B oil and filter changed and system emptied as far as possible via G/B oil cooler pipe, refitted and filled with original MB fluid £160 by Olly and that was including removing/replacing a bolt that had sheared for the sump pan. My pilot bush was diagnosed as leaking by SAM and he replaced this new part less than £20 (genuine part) and took him 20-30 minutes being a V8 he said this made the job a bit more awkward because of the routing of the exhaust.
Hope this has been some assistance in gauging the correct time/price for the job.

I think the issue here is wether or not the suspension crossmember needs to be droped. If it does, the suspension geometry needs to be reset so 4 hours probably not so far out?

Gearbox sump has no clearance issues with the front cross member, at least ways on a W202 it has,nt.

We charge £100 for gearbox oil and filter change, thats with the parts, ok, pilot bush is £20 on top, but thats due to it costs £17, so we make £3 on doing that!!

Wish we could charge £400 for doing that job!!

I have 3 x train tickets from Bramley to Basingstoke that were used by me a couple of weeks ago. All have been stamped by the ticket inspector, and are free to anyone who wants them, alternatively, you can buy them from
kompressorme's dealer for £150.00

Thats unbeleivably expensive, genuine gaskets and filter on e bay for just under £20.

Both mine and Lisas cars a doddle to do.

So, Amo_rahal, is that what you paid for the same service? Should your car (CLK 230) gearbox sump gasket and plug change cost more than a C class 180k?

cheers

Probably same basic gearbox with subtle differences gearing etc and same parts so cost should be very similiar if not the same.

Google 722.6 gearbox, one dipstick fits all models fitted with this box.
