Hi,

So a few times now I have noticed that there is a vibration through the gearbox when putting it in reverse. This only happens from a ”cold” start and disappears once you’ve driven about a mile. It doesn’t always happen but it is concerning.

Now I’ve noticed the same vibration when I turn right, but only under deceleration (say like coasting round a roundabout). If you accelerate, the vibration stops and again, after a mile or so disappears. It doesn’t do it on a left-turn, just right-turn.

Atf was changed at last service, so should be ok, but I don’t know how to check the level.

Any ideas what is causing this? Or any similar experiences?

Regards

Does it need to go on a ramp to check the mounts and is it an easy job to see/check them - or should i take it to my local indy?

As yours is a minimal problem, I would think it would be hard to see the problem visually. Some sagging of the mounts and hardening of the material is hard to see. Only way is to replace......they aren't too exxy. Drivers side front is often the main offender due to the engine torque.

Ian.

You can do a self check which doesn't require any skill.....I'm an expert on this :D
If you start the car and have the bonnet up so you can see the top of the engine from the drivers seat, rev the car up while in drive, but make sure the handbrake is applied and better still your left foot on the foot brake. Any excessive movement seen with the engine lifting can point to the mounts nearing there use by dates.......Simples ;)

Thanks 00slk :) I have it booked in at MBS next Tuesday. Hopefully that will cure the vibration. I'll post the outcome.

Cole can change a gearbox mounting in under a minute. It isn't an expensive item either.

I'll tell him you said that, I'm sure he'll be delighted :)

FYI, tried as 00slk said and there doesw appear to be significant movement, so let's hope that's what it is.
