Gearbox?

Recently my c200 4matic has been a little sluggish off the go. At first, it feels like there is a cylinder failing to fire, but then a thump is heard underneath, and it takes of fine. It does this, however, more often than not.

My suspicions are that it is my gearbox, but I am not sure. It's done 112k on the same box, which fuels this sneaking suspicion.

Can someone please give me some advice? And if if is the box, can someone recommend a good place to get a replacement that won't mean me re-mortgaging my house?

Thanks:sad:

You must check the level of the oil in the gear box, low fluid could cause it.

More important is that if you have one of the sealed for life boxes, you should get the oil and filter replaced as soon as possible, the new rules say now that the oil and filter should be changed at 60k. It will make a huge difference to the changes and life of the box.

Early 4speeds rely on vacuum for gearbox modulating pressure which gives shift quality. If you have a split vacuum pipe, this could cause poor engine running and gearbox problems. Check basics first. Gearbox pipe runs from NS of box ( a bit fiddly to get to without a ramp or good jack - dont use the car's jack and get under it ) The pipe is then visable below the wiper area and plugs into the inlet manifold. Also check your headlight height adjuster works, as this is also run off engine vacuum ( engine running ). Keep us posted

My mechanic thinks it's actually fuel delivery - mountings all sound, gearbox 'perfect', so taking it to diagnostics, luckily not a stealer!!

Thanks for all the help, guys.
