Hello all

Not a MB owner just yet- I'm still trawling thru technical stuff and apologise if this is a previously oft asked question but- what is the difference in the gearing in top of the various 107 models.

I've discovered that 350 models are geared for 20mph/1000 revs in auto top and that these use a 3 speed autobox but what about the 300 models onwards?

These apparently use a 4 speed auto and am I correct in thinking that 4th is a "lock-up" that offers a higher ratio?

If so could someone helpful out there tell me what 70mph equates to in engine speed in the 300/380/420 models.

Many thanks in anticipation.

4th gear 34mph/1000revs 4 spd non-switching box 1985. 3d is about 25mph/1000revs. ( just memory, don't shoot me down on a decimal point)
Don't get time to see the rev counter in 1st and 2nd, too busy hanging on.
The four speeder won't set off in first on a 500 unless you lock-up, or flatten the pedal. It will set light to the tyres if you try hard enough.

Going by other MB 3litre cars in 80s, I'd say that the 4sp auto, would equate to 21/23 mph in top.
