Genius until wiper blades start being produced in profiles too low to be retrimmed. They’re on the verge of it already.

I'm not convinced. In principle yes it should work but in practice it will depend entirely on the accuracy of the cut. The cut will need to be millimetre perfect the entire length of the blade so as not to leave any height discrepancies.

Not even millimetre perfect. Down to microns now. Also the angle of the cut needs to be completely consistent.

All to save £30-40 per year..?

Yep - my thoughts exactly. The slightest imperfection and its trash.

Still it’ll be good for those micro- shaving chinstrap beards.

also the blades get hard from uv exposure, its not just the edge that gets worn.

MB have the little sticker on them that changes colour when they need changing (conveniently after 6 months)

I ask myself 'when did you last change a wiper blade due to smearing on your car?'

Answer - 'that long ago it might have been the vauxhall viva HB back in 1978'.

I did change one wiper on MrsPs car last year as the washer nozzle had split sending gunge all over the wiper blade that froze to the windscreen over night and she tore it by just operating the wipers. I put a nice new Bosch blade on, that some scrote nicked/swapped within a fortnight.

Over the years I've used malt vinegar on a paper napkin to wipe the blade every so often. Think that started when McDonalds did, so each time visit McD pocket a sachet of vinegar and a napkin, wipe the bled, off you pop.

You could of course, if concerned, await the MB dealer winter check scheme where they give you free wiper blades, apparently :rolleyes:

Looked at a few reviews on the device.... Pretty split 50/50 as to works/rubbish.
Much seems to depend on the age of the blades and how hard the rubber has become.
As above regular cleaning will make them last a lot longer and if you really want the best then PIAA silicone ones last forever.

I find that my blades tend to separate from the arm long before they smear the screen sgnificantly.

Guess I drive through the wrong kind of rain!

I suppose you could re-purpose some disposable razors with superglue to make a wiper shaver.
The £15.95 price tag is borne of optimism and is enough to inspire many far eastern razor manufacturers to make a version.

Just imagine Peter Jones getting pitched this.

“So, it’s a razor”.
