Hey Folks,

New to Mercedes ownership and have just taken ownership of my GLA45 AMG in mountain grey.

Under 100miles to go until the running in period is over so looking forward to enjoying the car on some Highland roads.

Cheers,

Duncan

Welcome Duncan
You will of course be careful of the local constabulary up there, they've little sense of humour! Looks an awesome car, great colour...enjoy;)

This car is considerably more subtle than my last one so hoping to avoid exciting the gentlemen in flat hats who are notoriously devoid of humour.

Debadging is always one of my earliest jobs on my cars :)

MSL visit is tempting but the appeal of a 3 year warranty is currently stronger given the technology involved in these cars.

you would be surprised, ok not a 45 but our own DaveEnty with his E63 bi-turbo still visits the dealer for warranty work and servicing and they are fine with the mods he's done (so far, although it has just come out of it's warranty it's about to get a lot more tuning:cool::D), Acid has run his previous A45 while still in warranty without issue too. You could look at their tuning box which may give you a get out of jail free card should anything need to be done on it, or you could get a second ecu at which point it's a case of swapping it out and no one would ever know.

Tuning box route had occurred to me - a Brabus one wouldn't affect warranty would it? I've just come from Porsche ownership where the dealers would have you believe not having your tyres inflated to spec would invalidate the warranty

Brabus one would be fine but the MSL box would also work just as well and tends to be a better map

I doubt a dealer could detect a map or air filters

The Alpha air intake is pretty obvious under-bonnet (and tempting with its bold hp claims).

You missed the irony of my statement ;-)

I contemplated mapping once. I called the insurers to enquired about their views on mapping/chipping. The agent on the telephone did not understand the question.

I had no problem last time I had to do this but each insurer has their own term be it chip, remap, tuning box, tuning, performance enhancement, etc. They seemed most keen to know the %age gain over standard - anything up to a given point (either 20 or 25% gain) was tolerable; anything beyond that was punitive and the territory of specialist brokers.
