Hi, new on here, bought a 2016 GLC 220 4 matic Coupe in August from an independent garage, unaware of the problem of crabbing, this has got extremely bad since it’s got colder and wetter.
Does anyone know if there is a definite fix to this problem? I’ve read that changing the steering knuckles is meant to solve it but nobody has confirmed it. Any input would be helpful thanks

Yes, steering knuckle replacement is the solution offered by Mercedes free of charge although whether you would qualify as a second owner on a four year old car might be an issue.

There is also this very long thread on a GLC Forum which has a lot of detail of the fix if you can find it amongst all the other chatter.

Frankly unbelievable . Like a lot these days it seems vote with yr feet the only solution.it is also clear. that we can take little for granted on modern car purchases
The solution try not to be a canary when new models become avail.and look at customer satisfaction records before buying.I have made this error buying the so far trouble free ml250 but my research has indicated that getting badly bit is a when not if,so I am not keeping it.shame, drives nice, but thats the trap.!

Thanks for the input guys, wouldn’t of expected to get it done under warranty, but would consider paying depending on price. Will get some quotes, but like most people have said, shouldn’t expect this on a prestige motor from MB or any other manufacturer....

It may well be done free of charge as a Mercedes have sort of acknowledged there is a fault although they still officially describe it as a “characteristic”! Hold out for them to do it at their expense.

A lot of modern mercs have tyre skipping in the cold and wet usually due to summer tyres fitted not necessarily 4 mastics either, my last C class was terrible for skipping in the cold and brilliant with winter tyres on , I now have a GLC 350 and never had a crabbing issue but did notice a tyre skipping in the cold, Ive recently put a new set of all seasons on and they have transformed the handling and not a slight bit of skipping. So would advise you to check your tyres before spending on new knuckles
