My E280, with just the normal central locking - key only, not the remote type - has global locking of windows and the sun roof.
It appears to work only from the drivers door.
With any or all of the windows lowered and/or the sunroof open, close all doors, insert the door key and turn in the locking direction and HOLD IN THIS POSITION for two or three seconds. All the windows and the sunroof will then close themselves, providing you hold the key in this position.
Maybe you all know this already, but it was a surprise to me!  I don't think this is mentioned in the handbook.
Try it on yours!

Global Locking - nice surprise

Doug

Thanks for that, my 250D had this, but it worked on both front doors, and the boot lock.

When the drivers electric window started playing up, (strange syptoms, sunroof opening of its own accord, drivers door window would go down, but not up!!) it turned out to be the "comfort" relay under the back seat, this was the biggest relay i've ever seen, and the most expensive £125!!

i tried it out when i got this car, but all it did was to blow the central locking fuse, i haven't bothered since.

Global Locking - nice surprise

Hi All,

Dave E right, the global locking should work of both front doors & the boot.

The easy way to check if the vehicle has it. If your vehicle has the silver trim in\on the door handle it has it.

PS. I am sure its  in the owners hand book. But who reads that?!?!?!??!?!?

Just read Andy's reply, ripped open the curtains, and low and behold, there's my car sitting there with silver trims on the door handles.

Next question is, why does it blow the central locking fuse when i try to operate the global locking? not sure if i can be bothered to find out!

Global Locking - nice surprise

Had a go on my E280 lastnight and was also surprised to find it had global locking. It (I thought) only worked on the remote locking button.

Anyone find that if they turn it to the left all windows... would open? Or has mine got a bug?

Regards

David

I had a go last night, without luck unfortunatly. However i did manage to make myself look rather strange stood there in Tesco's car park staring at the windows.

David. Some cars have a system where when you re-open the lock, the windows return to the position they were in before you remote closed them..perhaps that was the case on yours.

Wooohoo!

It works on my W124 230CE also  :)

Windows dont go down though when I try the other way. Still I am rather chuffed as I am always forgetting to shut the windows properly.

I find this very useful. All my dads cars have done this, but mine dosn't. I don't know if mercs do this, but to save your self looking silly, holding the key in the door for 10 seconds, you can hold down the alarm button, until the windows go upor down. Some of our old cars you just press the button, and every thing closes. Sorry if im boring you ;)
