hi everyone, i once told everyone about a new restaurant which i found was very good, after some time i could never get a table. at the risk of doing the same thing with my local "inde" ( independant merc specialist, when i first joined the club i did not know what an inde was.)
after being involved for years with my local garage, which i want to forget, you realise the value of expertise and care.
there were two jobs to be done, wear in steering tie rods and surging cruise control, the car is a 97. e-300 7 seat est at 190k. miles. i've had it from new.
i told my inde i had ordered the parts from mb main dealer as i had considered doing the job myself, he said cancell them they are 30% cheaper at euro parts.
when i collected the car the same day as promissed he had just returned from the lazer tracking place. he checked the steering wheel was exactly aligned, then plugged in his modem and cleared all the codes, this was due to the other job with the cruise control. he explained that the electronics speed sensor etc. were ok. the problem was the internal cc drive in the fuel pump, so reccomended i live with the problem ( new pumps £1,000 +).
whilst i was waiting for my bill a car the same as mine came in, it had starting problems due to no fuel in the pump on occasions, he just got his cutters, and cut the 10 mm fuel pie just ahead of the fuel filter, he then inserted an impressive looking aluminium encapsulated cylinder with a pipe connection at each end. i said " is it a non return valve?" he said yes it's my own idea and cures the starting problems especially where the car is operated in hilly areas, and where the car is high mileage with somthing expensive having worn, the bit he fitted is circa £8.
i asked him to show me how to remove the rear door mechanism on my car as i have a job to do inside the door, no problem.
i got a bill for £150. inc.vat and parts.
this guy is like a breath of fresh air, i will be asking him if he will repair other makes? herbiemercman.
