I bought an icarsoft mb v2.0 from a seller on eBay, very good feedback so I thought should be OK.... tried registering it with icarsoft and im getting a message saying the serial number is not an icarsoft serial number so I have ordered a new one from a seller they recommended. Have started a returns case with the ebay seller.

someone asked recently on the forum about buying icarsoft and the consensus was avoid ebay (possible fakes) and go direct to the main uk distributor.

Well at least the vendor is based, or claims to be, in the UK you should have a good chance of recovering your money, I would make copies of all your documentation and communications with them and after you are refunded, pass it all on to your local trading standards office. Ebay are generally very good at dealing with this kind of thing, as long as you are OK waiting for the milestones they ask you to. I.e. giving the seller x days to respond. Then you should get a resolution in your favor, and the case seems pretty black and white to me.

Not your situation, but for anyone else: Things get far far worse if you leave it too long to open a case, and it then falls to paypal to resolve the issue. At this point, kiss it goodbye or buckle down for a long fight.

Ironic that the seller's advert harps on about fake products and he appears to have sold 50 + of these. To be fair though, if it is fake, the seller may have been taken in by his supplier and have been unaware. This obviously doesn't affect your rights under eBay or consumer protection legislation.

Had an icarsoft for my Jaguar XF before I sold the car was a great bit of kit and well made, had no problems registering it, but this one feels plastic.... I know they are made from plastic but this one feels cheap, the edges aren't finished, as if they haven't been cleaned when taking out of the mold, also icarsoft website not recognising the serial number sealed it for me

Any seller that harps on about fake merchandise and that they only sell the best blar blar blar I try to avoid.
Some good sellers are only brokers and it sounds like this maybe the case with your first purchase?
As has been mentioned above ebay are pretty good to deal with in these situations.

I found the update software to be a bit rubbish. If you manually type the serial number it didn't work, but if you have the scan tool on and open the software it reads the serial number in (the same one that I typed) and then works.

I thought icarsoft were Dutch. Maybe just imagined it.

Seems a bit dodgy on the part of eBay to allow sellers to have their apparently fake goods back, presumably to move it on to someone else. Good that you're getting your money back though.
