hi thanks for the ad, my slk 200 is my first merc and I love it, although it has a few niggling electrical problems it runs great especially with the roof down. One of them is the centre break light occasionally fails when I put the roof down but comes back on when it goes back up? Oh and the heavy clutch?

Hi and welcome.

Problems with anything attached to the bootlid are usually cracked wires in the boot harness where they flex.

What is this clutch thingy you talk of :D . It's nearly all autos on here buddy . The only advice I have is maybe increase your left leg muscles or get an auto like every other Merc driver o_O

Apparently there is a strut attached to the clutch pedal which is prone to breaking its mount. If this is removed you remove the risk of pedal box failure and it lightens the clutch action.

No first hand knowledge of this but it was something I tripped over looking for something else.....

Mine have torque converters which is a far more efficient way of driving.30% fewer pedal interactions per drive on average :D

boring as hell too, unless you have a V8 under the bonnet!

besides, unless you spend your life in traffic jams (whatever they are, ive heard of them ;)) I find autos just for the sake of it an unnecessary expense (when buying) and more expensive to repair when they go wrong!

Graham (OP) ignore the negative comments about manuals. ive been getting it for years! ive never once had a problem with any of my manual cars, and if its what you prefer, who is anyone else to argue the point otherwise. I tried an auto for 18 months. it took every bit of concentration for me to not 'manually' change gear, even the day I sold the car! left arm liked to do its thing with the gearstick (never had the problem many do with going for the clutch and slamming the brakes on with the left foot, always the arm trying to change gear)

Clutch ? Try an auto dear boy, you'll be a convert, especially in a modern Merc, it's what makes them so good. The Merc auto box complements the engine perfectly.
