Hi All

My W124 TE sunroof is somewhat stiff in operation, slides but will not tilt and when I looked the reason is obvious-the runners are dry and very dirty-I don't think it has been used for years!! Anyhow, I am going to clean it all up and regrease with silicone grease. I seem to remember a while back someone saying that there is a specific way to grease a W124 sunroof-is that right, and if so, can anyone give me any details of the best way to do it ? (Or is it just "slap it on all over " ?) :D
Thanks in advance.

You cant use normal grease,, and grease is not good where oil will go,, try the PTFE sprays,, they are clear non messy and very effective,,silicon is almost as good

Silicone is what I have Malcolm, so I was intending to use that. Do you know if there is a specific greasing technique for the 124 ?
Thanks.

Just get it where you can on the sliding rails, do not forget the up ad down fittings as well while operating the roof, do not over work the motor and just a few goes at a time

There's some small quantities of the MB special sunroof grease available at the moment on Ebay for a few quid.

For what it's worth, I can recommend an all round cure-all.

I use Rocol dry PTFE spray for many applications both at home and at work. It provides an almost invisible dry film coating. The advantage of a dry film application is that it doesn't attract dust and dirt, you can use it on sunroofs, door rubbers, locks, patio doors (few cars have these). Similar products can be obtained from decent bike shops.

I get it from RS or Farnell.
