A local bodyshop (I've used them for my unmercs) has just quoted me £300 as side. He inspected them, saying the rust is very superficial - nothing crumbling away in his hand.

I really think I've got to go with that, it would be rude not to.

That is a good price. It would be very rude not to...

I did mine from an aerosol can, I think AMF Automotive may have guessed this, but it only cost me £6.99 for the primer and £10.99 for the Black gloss which was a pretty good match and has lasted the same time as a £300 job ;)

Hi Conor, I haven't ever thought of photographing it but I will, for your interest. When Blobcat saw the car at a meet, it was his first point of scrutiny. It's pretty superficial but it nags me, knowing it's there. I read your posts and couldn't imagine doing any such work. I have no hands-on experience and would be mortified if I screwed up my excellent car.

The bodyshop has done three jobs for me in the last four years, so I have some confidence that the work will be done properly.

Fair enough.. It sure is a great deal of work here... and totally frustrating since I don't have a workshop, which I think is my mistake.

If I screw it up, i'll have at learned something along the way and can hand off to somebody. I've been treating the car very much as a project up to now. It's not where I want it to be yet, so I am less precious about it.

I admire your willingness to take it all apart & examine. My inexperience has made me reluctant, yours has made you inquisitive. We all have our strengths & limitations. At 65 yrs old I've pretty much established mine.

Haha that's true.. I'm still figuring out what I can do.. and it remains to be seen if car DIY is one the can or can't dos :)

Reluctant to post these, but here they are. It's booked in later this month. IMG_2032.jpg

Ooh that's not too bad.

Thanks for sharing, we are all friends here.

I guess your reluctance is due to possibly scaring off any potential buyers in the future..? Your getting them looked after and it's not even that bad.

Looks like you’re getting it tackled nice and early McDonald - anything that stops the evil metal worm is money well spent!

When you have a flaw on an otherwise excellent car, it seems odd to focus on just that element. I'm not considering selling, I want to keep it forever. Coronavirus induced panic has abated (though still no work since February & my phone isn't ringing). I'm back to my default position of wanting everything just right on the car.

That's true... but anybody going to buy one of these will likely know the arches can be an issue, and will be happy you have had them treated.
