Hello, my c200k has a noise which i asked about yesterday, I have now had new brakes fitted all round and the noise is still there, I have checked what I can. I can only describe it now as a grating noise, like a dry scraping, and it sounds only in the car, and coming from gearstick area, but this could be as it is the unisulated bit, any more ideas anyone, its going to be looked at tomorrow, and i would like to offer some suggestions. befor it costs me loads of money. Thanks Pt

That really confirms that a pad is sticking, or incorrectly fitted, if that is possible

Well you have to face it that something is not right, if it was my car , I would take them out and examine each one to see if it is rubbing/touching something else.If its making a noise, then it should leave a mark. it should be easy enough to work out the wheel that is causing the problem by opening the windows.

Try looking at the front wheel bearings, probably the right one. When it is going in a straight line, the bearing will rumble, when you turn left, the weight comes off the left wheel and it stops making the noise. £20 for a new pair of bearings, (2 per wheel), half an hour to fix it yourself.

The garage can not find anything, Wheel bearings seem fine, I have looked at a lot of threads with regards to the wheel bolts being to long or scuffing. This could explain the noise, but why would it suddenly start, as the wheels on the car were put on in May.
Still looking for answeres, taken some of the bolts out definately not nearside, as the ends are black, but the nearside rear did have a very minor mark which i suppose could be where it has been rubbing.
Help, need to sell my car, so need a fast fix, thanks pt

I had this on my W210 E-class when i changed alloys-and it was all down to the length of the wheel bolts-just try with very short bolts, but obviously do not drive too fast or corner hard-only do it as a test, and if the noise stops, then at least you can try to source some bolts which are a fine balance between curing your problem and having enough thread going in to be safe.
