On a recent trip to the UK, I had the misfortune of having a cracked radiator in my W210 E320 CDI year 2000. The Mercedes dealership in Milton Keynes said that they didn’t list the radiator anymore and thought I would not be able to get one. (Not very helpful ). My son managed to locate a new radiator from a parts place he knew well and it was a genuine MB rad. We had a mater of hours to fit it, as I had a ferry to catch early the next morning. I needed a coolant mixture, so went to Halfords. I could not find any which said the were suitable for a Mercedes, so I asked the guy in charge of that area and he gave me a universal coolant and assured me it was okay for a Mercedes. OAT universal anti-freeze and coolant. It is pink.
As the colder weather is coming, I thought I had better get some spare anti-freeze in case of need. A hydrometer test shows that it is okay to -32° however, there is no information on the container as to its approval for the car. Has anyone had experience of this, or any formation as to topping up with a different coolant. I don’t want to cause any problems for the future.
