Does anyone have a diagram of the layout of the handbrake on my W203 220CDI? The pedal does not feel right and i think the return spring is broken and the warning buzzer goes off until you pull the pedal up with your foot. Is it a difficult job to do? Im quite handy with a spanner so all advice is appreciated....Del My e-mail is dekkit@msn.com

Thanks for that Malcom, i dont often use the brake but its gone duff today, reading through some of the other threads it appears it is maybe only needing an adjust. Will try tomorrow and see if that does the trick. Dont fancy pulling the dash apart to get to the pedal. Also on checking again i think the plastic ratchet thing on the padal has broken, dont know if its worth sorting or not

Lift up the rear seat and your find a panel in the center of the floor, remove this, there your find the spilter, this seizes due to being open to the weather, good lube up and work the pedal, should cure a lot of the fault!!

Thanks Sam, but upon inspection it appears one of the cables has broken, it looks like a new one required. Are they MB only do you know ?

Do you mean the peg has dropped out, if so, theres a plastic clip that breaks and the peg falls out!

Via lifting the rear seat and removing that panel to gain access to the spliter are you able to adjust it from there as mine feels a little slack, needs a couple of pulls via with the hand to release the foot brake.

Thx

there is no point in adjusting the cable if you have not taken up the slack in the rear drums,,for 90% of cars this is all that is needed and the best way to do it, it could be that the levers that operate the parking brake shoes are near the end of the travel, and just doing the cable could achieve nothing
