Hi all,

I posted recently about the parking brake light not appearing in dash when i put parking brake on.

I had a suspcision that the actual parking brake was at fault, so i put the car in neutral, put parking brake on and the car was still rolling. Only bought the car 6 weeks ago from a private dealer and im pretty sure it hasnt worked since, can i claim from dealer?

The car is the E270cdi 2003 (w211).

Is this a big problem? Im in glasgow, so anyone reccomend somewhere that could fix it apart from the obvious MB.

Thanks,

Digi

When you say 'private dealer' do you mean an independant dealer or a private seller?
If it is a dealer I think they are obliged to get it sorted.

When you say is it a big problem, well it should not be on the road without a parking brake (not road worthy)

Reason, shoes worn out, cable broken or out of adjustment, the car could have been driven with the handbrake on,destroying the shoes, its simple to check

the normal brakes are fine though, so you think the cable could be broken?

You have parking brake shoes inside the rear disc hubs, and these are nothing to do with the normal brakes.

The parking brake system is pretty simple and well within the capabilities of any back street garage or your average diyer (unlike the rest of the braking system which isn't really). If you bought it from a trader then take it back to them. If it was a private seller, bob it down to your local qwikfit.

Getting at the handbrake requires that the rear calipers are removed. Unless you know exactly what you're doing leave well alone. Take the car to Merparts, Port Glasgow. PA14 5NQ 01475 741236. Ask for Steff. They have the specialized kit to do the brakes on these cars. Dont tell them Derek sent you, they might throw you out. :)>
