Hi

I've just aquired a 500SE and I believe the handbrake to be faulty.

The handbrake lever appears a little loose. If this is how it's supposed to be please let me know.

From memory, on the S classes (Dad sold his '84 380SE in 88 so its been a while!), the handbrake pulls out to set, but the lever itself then drops back into the dash so it doesn't restrict your exiting the car. (W123's or E's didn't do this and the lever stayed put) You then pull the lever back out, twist and release. The stage between 'in' and where it is set will feel sloppy as there isn't any resistance from the mechanism.
Is this what you mean by loose?
