I have a 280 sl w129 2000, lovely car except steering very vague, had this looked at, slight adjustment carried out to the tracking, tyres were wearing unevenly so these were swapped with the rear, vast improvement but still not perfect, garage advised that the michelin tyres fitted are old and hardening and should be changed for continetal's, any thoughts.

Also ride quality/suspension is very poor, anything other than a smooth road and the car is not very happy, it feels every bump and at times clatters through the whole car and chasis which can be worrying, mechanic has advised that the front shocks have slight leak but all else is ok, I cant believe this is the intended mb ride quality, any thoughts.

Can anyone advise best deal on shocks.

Hi Tony and welcome. I had a 129 320 1999 for 2 years and the ride and steering was first class, it was fitted with Michelin tyres all round. I drove the car happily up to 135 mph.

Has the car had a 4 wheel alignment check
