I have recently requested a handfree kit to be fitted to my CLK240 Cabriolet, to be told that it cannot be retro fitted into the central console & though the Command Centre.

According to the local dealer, the only option available is to have a unit bolted to the side of the passsenger leg well, bypassing the Command centre, thereby rendering useless the telephone functionality of the Command.

PLEASE someone tell me this is rubbish!!

I need the phone fitted but don't want the classy interior ruined by a phone.

phone kit

Hi

I guess you bought the car second hand or you didn't order it pre wired. The MB line is that the UHI ohone kit cannot be retro fitted however there are company's doing it for around 1500 quid I think if MB got there act together it could be done for around a 1000 quid. This all sounds very expensive as the pre wire is inly about 450 quid and all you need then is a cradle at 100 quid, please please order the car with pre wiring?

Too late I'm afraid, but what I really need is to know that it can be done then I can make a decision. I take from your reply that it can (however expensively) where do you think I could I get written confirmation of this.......??

I didn't want a metal bracket bolted to the side of the console either, but Merc do a mounting that extends the console (same material and colour) and also houses a speaker (mine was around £100 4 years ago). The phone cradle can be attached directly to that and is quite neat and looks like it's supposed to be there. Admittedly hiding it in the arm rest is neater but I wouldn't have thought it was £1000 neater!
There again, if you can do without the display, why not leave the phone in your pocket and just get a nokia bluetooth kit (about £70 + fitting).
