I had the electric ones in my 123 and 124 in Sweden, these are mains heaters thar screw into the cooling system, and I had a time switch to turn mine of 2 hours before I used the car. We had plug in points at our work places

Worth having in blighty?

I only use the car at weekends and would love to get in to a car with a warm cooling system, must make sense for reducing engine wear too....

I have a fair bit of experience with Webasto and Eberspaecher Diesel Air-heaters, the water heaters being of very similar design. They can be problematic in very cold environments, the Webasto being better for this as its design is less prone to coking. If you want one, look on Ebay Germany, you see them on their from time to time, and also you see Mercedes models (standard model with correct mounting kit).

nice 201 2.5D 1993 & very nice 129 SL500 1994
The Kenlow unit fits into the heater hose and it takes about 30 mins to get an MGB nice and warm, realy good if you like the heater and demisters to work from start up.
They are supposed to be good for the engine as well.

The electric units look great, but if you cant park your car within extension cable reach, consider a heater which uses your cars own fuel and is standalone ie. The link below shows you some for the W124 all 2nd hand, but if you scan for Mercedes Standheizung you get new ones coming up for around 800quid, complete kit with guarantee.

I thought the 606 block has a socket somewhere for a heater, on the bottom, exhaust side? I'm sure I've seen such things on the yank forums.

Yes, on OM606s there's a plug towards the rear of the block under the exhaust manifold where the standard MB heater could be plugged in.

I've heard horror stories of the block cracking as people try to take these plugs out, and via the Russian site and Inchcape, I priced up a block heater kit. Not a cheap modification to do it that way!
