It is no better unless it does something the i980 cannot do ;)

So it will depend on your vehicle as the i980 is pretty limited but for me I don’t think any other icarsoft model would do anything in addition.

Hi, I have the MB V3.0 and easy to use for a novice like me which as dpf section too. Depends what you want from it as I've just tried to find the spec for the i980 and it doesn't look to cover as much.

Can't agree. It has done so much over the past 4yrs with our CLK that we've never needed a better unit or indy/dealer help. Compared to having nothing it's brilliant and at around half the cost of one dealer diagnostic session. Think they are discontinued now replaced by the V2 and V3 models.

I have just upgraded i980 to V2 purely for the extra DPF facility which is useful on my Viano... and the assumption the software would be later. In truth in all other areas the i980 does about as much. The V3 takes some things even further but nothing I wanted.

Yes, I have the pro and 980, the pro is easier to use and it’s easier to reset service etc.

Mind you, I am eyeing up an upgrade to the CR Max

I have a great selection of diagnostic tools.
i980, MB-II, Autel AP200, Carsoft 7.4 and Star/Xentry

All do something the others don't (except the i980) which is pretty basic. Obviously Star does everything (it's developer version too), Carsoft 7.4 is the only one aside from Star that can talk to 38 pin connectors and after that the other three are listed in order of increasing functionality (the AP200 can code keys for example which the others other than Star can't).

The i980 is now reserved solely for the Smart the MB-II for the 251, the AP200 for the R230 and the Carsoft for the 129 (as in each lives in its assigned car).

My first OBD reader was the iCarsoft MB11, which was a big improvement on i980, I then upgraded to the iCarsoft CR Pro, which is exactly fine for me,,,,can be used on a large range of vehicles, but primarily MB. I will not be changing it any time soon. Hfunctions.as DPF regen etc and many more

And yet you have bought a V2 to do something the i980 cannot do?

As I said, if it does everything you want, which on a W203/W209 it most likely will and does for me, then you don't need anything else but on anything more recent it is pretty limited.

I think the OP's car is a 2005 which made me think the i980 would cover the majority of his car systems.

I have a fondness for the iCarsoft base range like the i980 because they have saved me so much money and time compared to not having a vehicle specific code reader. Such as diagnosing which parking sensors were at fault when the system turned off before removing the bumper to replace them... in minutes diagnosing which sensor was at fault when we had a limp home incident. With the BMW version of the i980 I was able to diagnose a tricky airbag light issue on a 5-series and resolve with a £20 used ECU... BMW had looked at it trying to charge £150+ for diagnostics and estimating another £600+ for the repair.

So yes for the right older car they are brilliant for what they've done for me.

But of course if you are undertaking advanced dealer level repairs to a modern MB then other expensive diagnostics may be better.

Just literally bought an iCarsoft CR Max Pro to replace my iCarsoft MBII V2 as the wife now has a Audi instead of her E350 coupe. So needed the capability to read Audi codes.
So far absolutely brilliant and has so much more capability than the MBII v2.
Incidentally, if anyone wants to buy it, it’s available
