I am looking to buy a new catalyst for my car as I'd prefer it was fixed properly and not cut out and welded back up, my local garage has quoted £253 just for the part after phoning up a supplier whilst I was there.

Part Number BM91120H

I looked on ebay and found an equivalent part, for £30 less then I took the part number and found this online shop called the catalytic convertor shop which said the part was nearly £60 cheaper.

So I am wondering if anyone in the trade or general public users of this forum have used this web shop previously and have found there parts good quality.

A good second hand OE cat is generally better/longer lasting than a new after market cat.

BM Cats are the oldest one in this business, any after market CAT is a little harder to fit on the whole but nothing wrong with BM and widely used in the garage trade.

Your original cat would still be worth more gutted than the aftermarket one.
Bet it still weighs more as well
If there is one component that will always be a cheap alternative to genuine its the cats.
Bm catalysts are a decent company, but it will be nowhere near the quality from mb

My cat packed up after 11 years, I opted for a genuine MB set of 4 cats, wasnt cheap but I know ill not be changing them again anytime soon.

with a petrol, if theres only 1 cat (or 1 per bank on a V6 or V8 engine) you WILL need to replace the cat as they seldom go through an MOT without them, even if the box is in place. if theres 2 cats (or 4, as per Miffy's car) then you will probably get away with one on each bank (or 1 in total on a 4 cylinder engine) being gutted.
on a diesel, then officially, as long as the box is there, you can gut them as long as it passes the emissions test!

incidentally, as the CAT in a petrol converts Hydrogen particles and Oxygen particles to form water (according to the blurb they tell you) then what exactly does a cat in a DIESEL do? i can find NO info whatsoever

They fit one to diesels Pete, so that they can block and mess up the engine ;)

The CAT buyers will not buy them if the contents are out of the housing, just complete CATs. Most after market CATs are smaller than the originals, but they still pass the MOT

thats the only use ive found for them so far!

odd really they have been fitted to mainstream diesel cars (like the early mondeo diesels, for example) since the 90's BUT no one seems to know what they actually DO on a diesel, or therefore, why theyre fitted at ALL

A quick update, I placed the order through this website and placed delivery for next day.

Looking at my order I noticed it's status hadn't been progressed during the normal working day, so I just phoned to enquire what was going on and they said they update process and ship all items between 4-5pm and was assured my item will arrive when stated.

Handy information should anyone else require it
