hi,
i looked at an '03 plate c class in the rain tried it and decided to buy. before the deal went through had another closer look and found stone chips on every panel, pillar and the roof and everyone was rusty. found out post '04 cars had slightly thicker paint and bought one of those so here's hoping. this is after a '98 e class:roll:

I have no idea whether they are galvanised or not these days, but my 51 reg ML has horrendously soft paintwork - it scratches at the slightest touch.

I used to just clean my cars and then polish with a silicone based wax, but with this one I am considering 'claying' and then refinishing with something tougher.

Surely though, rotten sills are a thing of the past?

I keep hearing about the earlier models becoming rusty etc and other than a very small bubble on the front drivers wing (less than the size of a fingernail) there isn't a spot on mine at all and it's a 97 W202. I noticed it the other day and already have it booked in to be done. At a recent service I took a gander under the car while it was up on the ramps and the mechanic said it's spot on, no probs at all :)

I believe the problem started in late 97 early 98, so you may be lucky and have a decent example. The body shop which did my wifes c180 said they had been on a factory visit and had witnessed steel being pressed and then painted without correct preparation which is the source of the problem
