I just want to ask those who probably know more about it......
My newly acquired E300 diesel power steering was very noisy under the bonnet at full lock.
Basically, what I've done is syphoned out the old fluid I could, directly from the reservoir. The old fluid was a horrid dark brown colour. the new I put in was more healthy red/pinkish. I left it in for a few days whilst using the car, syphoned out again...a slightly off pink colour came out...
I've now refilled with fresh ATF again and put some 'forte' additive (from what looks like an over sized toothpaste type tube)....
The steering doesn't seem to make the noises at full lock, but isnt perfectly quiet....
Anyone have any further tips?
I felt more comfortable just purging the reservoir, as it didn't involve upseting any joints or threads.
