I recently purchased a clk 240 cabriolet (2004).

Recently when the car is locked and is idle for a few hours the hazards lights will consistently flash for no apparent reason.

If I unlock the car and lock it again it stops.

Can anyone hazard a guess as to why this would happen.

The car's recently had a service so not sure if any of the settings were changed.

Seems like your alarm is going off, usual cause is faulty siren.

amo rahal is probably right. the fact that you can't hear the siren is a clue...

The rain during july has caused many faults of this nature,,you can just unplug the siren,, its under the wheel arch and that will prove the point

...or lock yourself in the car, wait 10 seconds, then opening the door from inside, this will trigger the alarm.

Hi,
Welcome to the forum,
Its fitted in the LH wheel arch liner, behind the bumper, you will need to remove the liner first 4 bolts and screws IIRC, once removed it is easily accessible.
New siren is approx. £60 though it was a while ago i replaced mine.

You guys could well be right but I've noticed that if there is an issue and the alarm can't set (say a partially open door) then the hazards flash but there's no siren. Just check all is well, the bonnet is properly closed etc.

It is the sirens with inbuilt re chargeable batteries that give the problems, once the batteries are shot they go short circuit and the alarm cannot set correctly

Looks like it is a new Siren then, played about at the weekend with it and although it does make a slight sound when the alarm goes off you have to have it righ next to your ear to hear it. Not exaclty going to draw much attention to the car if someone was trying to steal it :)
