The headlamps seem to be very poor on my mercedes 230E. The failed lamp sensor looks at the lamp through the electronic control box and thereby enables a failure to be shown. If I fit higher rated lamps/bulbs and change the fuse accordingly would this cause a problem with the lamp monitor?
If the lamp moniotr looks at the voltage across a sereies resistor it might cause the resistor to overheat or have I got it all wrong?

If you change the bulbs to 100 watt, the fail indicator normally stays on all of the time, It did on a 123 and 124

Poor lights, W124

Ken

Search this forum (and the other one) and you'll see lots about this

I recommend replacing the headlights because on an early car the silvering is likely to have disappeared from the reflectors. Take the front lenses off & examine the relectors but be careful as the silvering is super-thin and can come off when touched. Replace if required

100/80 bulbs do help but the lighting multi-function switch may fail prematurely due to increased load. Lamp holders may melt due to increased heat. And they're illegal. Other than that 100W bulbs are, IMHO, one of the best modifications for a W124

Nick,
Can the reflectors be purchased separately or do I need to buy complete assemblies?
