How do you change the offside bulb on an E class. I can't seem to get the housing off the back as its buried behind hoses and filter cover.

Help Please!!!!!

Unless someone tells you different I do not think that you have any choice other than to move everything that's in the way, most of the hoses etc will push back far enough to allow a half turn on the holder.

This is one time where you have the laugh over BMW, 4.5 hours in the garage and a bill for £500, only to find that it only lasted one week.

I once tried changing both headlamp-bulbs on mine.

Went to M-B Road Range Chester, asked about getting them fitted (20 minutes labour charge) but was told they couldn't do it there-and-then. Service advisor told me how to do it. Went outside, rolled-up my sleeves and started. Half-an-hour later I was not much further on; except I was filthy up to my elbows.

A chap in an M-B jacket, white-shirt and a tie walked by and asked what I was doing: he told me he hadn't done this for a while, but took the bulbs from me and in under ten-minutes had both fitted. Now he was filthy: his white shirt-cuffs were black. Thanked him and asked him if what I could pay him: he didn't want anything.

He let me use the workshop washroom to clean-up. I got his name and a few days later I took him a bottle of good wine. Turned out he is the Service Manger. A nice bloke, with strong fingers!

Probably much easier just to remove the entire headlamp assembly - lift the bonnet and you'll see the bolts.

Not the bolts under the bumper! Watched the dealer change my 210 headlight unit once - Took him over 1 hour on the ramp.
I've changed both sides over the years. A doddle on the 240, though clearly it depends on what model you have as to what's in the way.

If you do take the cover off the back and change the bulbs make sure you get the cover back on properly and sealed else it gets moisture inside and then you are in trouble. I speak from experience.

i,ve changed both my headlight bulbs a few times now and although its fiddly its not too bad,you just have to get your hands in and pull the plastic cover out of the way as far as you can,the passenger side seemed worse than the drivers side at first untill i found out by accident that the headlight washer bottle just pulls up and slides out of the way...this makes that side a doddle,i wouldnt remove the headlight to do it like has been suggested.
