Headlight ballast

Anyone know if I replace the headlight in my W207 e350 61reg do I need a headlight with the ballast or can I get it without as the glass on my headlight is cracked

I imagine if you got a replacement headlamp suitable for you xenon or LED lights if you have them that you could just swap the ballast from your existing lamp

You’d think so but it wouldn’t work. The ballast is coded to the driver for each individual lamp.

If it worked originally coded or not, and is swapped to another headlamp and retro fitted back into the same car then it will work.. Just make sure you keep everything switched off, or disconnect the battery, and the ECU will never know it has been worked on.

On some headlights you can get just the plastic lens (just found a supplier for my 210).
